Labradorite and Red Oak Table
Last February, Mike, Leo and I traveled to St. Louis so Leo could have his first cardiac scan. I decided to go to a crystal wholesale warehouse I love and do some shopping for you guys. Leo got to come in and the staff loved him! Anyway, as you can imagine, crystal shopping in a giant warehouse full of nothing but rocks is extremely overwhelming. I want it all! The energy! The vibrations! The humming! AAAAAAAAA
It took several hours to choose, grab, weigh, price, overthink and agonize over what to bring back. I was pretty spent by the time they said, “Hey, it’s almost closing time. You wanna wrap it up?” I was pushing the flatbed towards the checkout when I spotted two shiny things on a bottom shelf, the same time Mike saw them. Were those really giant LABRADORITE SLABS?!! Turns out, they were. The warehouse doesn’t normally carry things like that, but this was a special order someone ghosted them on.

I looked at Mike, he looked at me. Could we afford them? No. Could the car handle the weight of them along with all the other pretties I’d just picked out? Not sure. But Mike had just scored an Apple credit card, and it hadn’t been used yet. So we calculated what Mike’s Subaru Outback could hold, and said, we’ll take them. BOTH of them.
The slabs have lived in our garage since then, waiting for Mike to work out the strongest, most carefully engineered base to hold a six-foot slab of pure, polished glorious labradorite. And he did just that! He worked for weeks to measure, cut, glue, test, recut, swear, cry and finally finish what is, to date, his most magnificent woodworking project ever.
The base is crafted of strong red oak, and he used no screws, bolts or nails to hold it. It’s all done with pegs, glue and engineering. It can hold 1,500 pounds of weight. It’s sturdy as anything. And it’s absolutely breathtaking. Katie, whom you might know as the Friendly Neighborhood Heathen at the shoppe, wood burned two bind Runes into the base: One for Protection and one for Family and Gatherings.
This table is special. It is absolutely unique. And she needs a home. Help us find her an owner who will love her and celebrate her beauty! She is at the shoppe for you to check out, come and see for yourself! Pictures do NOT do her justice.
